The Process

You decide how many sessions you want. Typically we will work through three stages:

The first stages of your counselling:

In the early stages of therapy I will work on establishing safety and trust with you so that you are more comfortable in revealing your struggles. This also helps me get a good understanding of what your problems are and when they first began. I’ll try to help you reduce your anxiety and instill hope that things can get better. We’ll talk about what you want to achieve from therapy and help you get clear on what you want from your life.
The middle stages of your counselling:

Once we have established a good rapport and are clear about your concerns and what you want to get out of counselling, we’ll start working on a deeper level of your problems, emotions and challenges. We’ll look at your behavioural patters and see how they have been impacting your life to date. In the process you will build a stronger sense of who you are. Once you feel more hope and confidence, you’ll feel more optimistic and motivated to change. You’ll feel inspired and ready to take action.

ETHICS

Confidentiality

The therapeutic relationship is unlike any other. For example, you may want to tell me things you have never told another person, but are worried about confidentiality. Everything you tell me will remain safe with me, unless I feel you or someone else is in danger, in which case I would discuss the matter with you first. If I were to consult with a senior colleague your confidentiality would be maintained at all times.
Professional Standards

I am bound by the ethics of the BACP and the FPC and can make available upon request copies of their code of ethics and complaints and grievance procedures. I am committed to ongoing professional development to ensure I regularly attend relevant workshops. I have regular clinical supervision.

The ending phase of your counselling:

The length of counselling varies depending on you. Remember you are in the driving seat. Over time, you may start noticing that you are incorporating the work you are doing in our counselling sessions into who you are outside of our sessions. You’ll notice that the process is impacting your daily living. Once you feel that you have achieved the goals you have set for yourself and are feeling happier and more at peace, we can wind down our work together. I am committed to working with you effectively and efficiently to create the long-term emotional, physical, mental and spiritual changes that you desire.
